Post TH 350 Filter

I just dropped the pan for my '69 TH350. The old filter is rectangular and the filter part is facing upward.
The auto parts store gave me a filter which had a notch out of a corner. The filter part faces downward.
The gasket which came with it fits over the 13 holes.
Should I ask for a different filter or is this a normal new filter.
I have never replaces a TH350 filter before now.

your problem is really no problem at all the filters were made by different manufacturers, they have different ideas on how their filters work. i have seen at least 5 variations on 350 filters.

Installed the new filter and the car runs great now.

The car was jerky on aceleration. I thought I might have a carb or fuel problem. But, I hadn't chgd the tranny fluid, etc. As it also was shifting hard, I gave this a try. It worked
