th 400 problems

i have a bb 454. ran 11.95,, with this tranny too.. th 400 has manual valve body, stall 2500, and other stuff i dont no about,, internals, but recently i noticed when i get on it hard shift to 2nd it takes a secound to do it,, it use to be instantly, shifting to 3rd seems fine.. doenst fell like its sliping, when its cold i crank it up and i hear a winding noise,, goes up when i rev,, its not the motor i no for sure,, when it warms up it goes away,, but today i was going and it just lost everything,, wouldnt move in any gears,, turn it off, let it sit for a minute then it would move again, i put it in 1st but its acuatlly in 2nd.. what could it be?

Sounds like you toasted the 2nd gear clutches and welded them together.

The whining noise was likely a partially plugged filter or cracked pickup tube causing the pump to whine and the delayed shift was due to the fluid taking longer to apply the clutches.
The clutches got hot and welded together, now you have 2nd gear all the time.
