Th 400 question
Hi guys, about one year ago i bought from Summit a th 400. the one they sell under they're own name, any way i just installed it in my brothers 396 Nova and it feels lazy when shifting in 3rd gear, almost slips ! ? and another thing when i put in i 1st. manually it feels like it comes very heavy ? i mean if i accelerate the engine the rpm goes up but the car does not move freely like in drive. What i am saying is that if i put it in drive and let go of the brake the car starts to move but not when i put it in 1st. I have tried to disconnect the shifter cable and set the lever in 1st position by hand and no difference ?

Does the tranny have a modulator valve on it? Do you have vacuum to it? Are you sure the tranny did not come with a reverse manual valve body? If it did, 1st gear is actually 3rd.

Hi, yes it has modulator and i have vacuum hose connected. About the valve body i can set it in drive and then it works OK. takes off in 1st. gear and shifts up beside that it is rather lumpy when hitting 3rd. I can set it in 2nd. and then it starts in 1st.also, and when i start in 2nd. and release the brake the car runs and if i then set it in 1st. its just like i step on the break and the car stops ?
