TH 400 rebuild
I have an 82 Gran Prix with a Pontiac 400 .30 over, mild cam , Performer manifold, and a Q jet by Edlebrock; 3.42 posi, and runs mid 14 s. It is a well mannered, quiet , and comfortable street car for a 70 year old man like me. However, the Th350 is showing signs of hard use by what I see in the pan. I have at Th400 from a 73 Grand Am and some of the internals from a 67 GTO. I have 2 questions regarding this rebuild: first, the intermediate drum from the GTO is equiped with a sprag band apply surface has wear some thing like you would see in a used brake drum. What is the wear limit? Can it be resurfaced as you would do with a brake drum? Second, I plan to overhaul this with the instructions as supplied by articles posted by jakeshoe. Who supplies overhaul kits which include a rear Torrington thrust bearing and a selection of the various selective fit thrust washers. It is pain to try to find then in the middle of a project. Thanks to anybody that can give me some help.
