th 400 trouble

i have a th 400 and i was doing some burnouts and donuts with it. and after i was done the car wouldn't move in any gear. but park still works. i checked the fluid and it was full hot but full. i started the car again i tried to put it in gear and it when in a started to move so i drove it a round a little. like 100ft. then i shut it off and let it sit a cool down. it was really HOT. i started it like maybe 20 minutes later and rev-ed it up and it started to whine really loud. it got louder and faster the higher the rpms. and i would let move a little bit. but i had to rev it pretty good. so i took the trany out and looked at the torque converter. i had just recently put a 2200 rpm stall in it. and i shook it a little and it sounded like the clutching was moving around in the casing. when i dropped the pan the fluid smelled a little burned but not to bad. and the fluid had maybe 6 thousand miles on it. i had a trany cooler on it also.

i am asking your thoughts are on what you think is wrong i thought it was the torque converter but some one told me it was the pump.

i would say the oil pump shaft check it and if it wobbles its out and stick your finger in the torgue converter and see if the gears in it wobble

What?? . There is no oil pump shaft in a TH-400 and no gears in a torque converter.

Sounds like you burnt up the forward clutch pack or blew the lip seal on the clutch piston, or the same to the low/reverse clutch. Either way, the trans has to be opened up and inspected, and probably totally rebuilt.

How old is the trans, and has it ever been rebuilt before??

a loud whine out of a t-400 is often a clogged filter.... if the filter is clogged , that is usually debris from the trans parts coming apart.

t-400 torque converters do not have gears inside them
