I would say that a stock 350 could handle around 300 lbs of torque. I believe the stock converter's stall is 1100-1500, but I'm not sure, and I like to mount tranny coolers along the frame since I'm allways worried about overheating. If you plan on making more torque than that, I would just run it with the tranny as is, and wait till it blows to fix it, but that's just me...

Hey thanks GT2, that's what my friend said to do, he's keeping the stock 350 on an 80 El Camino too(360hp and 360torque). And yeah...my rear wheel power is going to be in the range of 300-330hp and 400 torque.

If that T-350 is the original tranny to the car it will be a lock up converter type tranny which is a T-350C.
Since it is a 3.8 V6 engine in the car the tranny may be a T-250, not a T-350C. A quick look near the cooler line connections on the passenger side of the tranny case for a threaded stud protruding from the case with a nut on it.
