I have a 67 Tempest I am building to drive hard. I have already stabbed a 400 in her, .030 over, RAIII cam, 1:65 rockers, Hooker headers (those were alot of fun to install), Edelbrock Performer, Mild port on the 4x heads, and a Carter AFB Comp 700cfm carb. I am guessing it's putting out 320-330 HP, maybe a bit more.
Of course the ST300 tranny didn't last long living behind that. I want to find a BOP TH350 to install, with a shift kit, etc, possibly even install a manual valve body and a floor shifter...
From what I am told, the th350 will bolt right in. But what length tail shaft do I need, does anyone know? I see that there are 6 and 9 inch tailshafts. The car is in storage and I can't access it to measure the ST300 and I can't find any dimensions listed on the web for it... I am sure someone here has done this same swap....
I have a th400 but if I go with that then I have to have the driveshaft shortened and install a different trans mount. I think I would rather go with the th350 as it is lighter anyways. Does this sound logical?
Also I understand the th350 needs a kickdown cable, from the carb.... is this a big deal to rig up? Is my Carter compatible? I am getting a new carb anyways after the tranny swap complete, any recommendations?
The rear end is the 2.73 peg-leg right now, but a Safety-Track is next on the list after the trans and carb... probably with a 3.55 gear or so I'm thinking.....
Any help or input or opinions are appreciated.... I have been lurking here for awhile and this is one of the better boards on the web, most of you know what you are talking about
