th350 front seal removal

Need to replace the front seal, but I can't get the old one out. Tried levering it out with a screwdriver but it won't budge. Any tips or special tools? I'm not a BFH kind of guy, so maybe I'm just being too timid.

front seal removal.

I've made a hook to fit my slide hammer, still no luck, just bends the lip of the seal.
The new seal has a flange on the metal lip. The book shows this flange to be on the outside. The existing seal doesn't have a flange on the outside. Is it possible the seal was placed in backwards from the book? With the flange on the inside?

I think they would had to have installed it with the pump split, not likely. It may have been installed with the good old brown sticky sealer that dries hard as a rock.

You could always pull the pump (so as not to let anything contaminate the trans?) and gently tap it towards the inside, see if it budges. I've rebuilt a couple of T-400's, but never rebuilt the old pumps, I'm not sure what goes on inside them.
