TH350 Gear selector tab stuck

Ive run across a strange problem with a TH350 in a '76 3/4 ton 4x4 pickup.

The transmission will not let me select neutral, 3rd, 2nd, or 1st gears.
It slides from park to reverse just fine, but it will not move to any gear past reverse. I disconnected the shift linkage and crawled underneath, still the same result. Applying mild force does not help.

The transmission functioned pretty well before this problem arose. All forward and reverse gears held well.

Anyone else ever seen something like this happen?

Had a similar problem about 3 weeks ago. Droped the pan and found the nut had loosened up on the detent cam on the other end of the shift shaft. No biggy,Just lined up everything and tightened it and put pan back on with fresh oil. Hope this helps.

Thanks, that does help.

Ive got a copy of Ron Sessions book 'Turbo Hydra-Matic 350 Handbook' handy. Its got a diagram of the shift shaft assembly, and with any luck Ill be able to figure it out. Thanks again.
