TH350 problem

OK guys, need a guru!

2 weeks ago, I put a newly rebuilt th350 in my 78 Chevy P/U. Last week, I had some brake problems, so I totally rebuilt the brakes. Later found out I had a bad brake hose that would gradually cause the R/F wheel to drag.

Took my wife to work, on the way home, brake started dragging, had to really stay on the gas to get home.

Now the trasmission is starting to shift funny, won't go into 3rd until about 35 MPH, and when it does, it sometimes shifts back and forth from 2-3 several times.

Now, somebody tell me,

WHAT DID I BURN UP

Any ideas would be appreciated, also already adjusted the kickdown cable, and all vacume modulator line is good.

Thanks in advance.

Well, since you admittedly abused the trans, most likely you overheated it and fried a clutch pack.

I am no trans guru but that is what it sounds like to me.

You may have gotten lucky and just coked the fluid, so I would change fluid and filter before anything else.

check the governor first for stuck valve , it is easier.... press on round cover near the back end of main case.

You may need to drop the pan & the valve body to clean the v-body and free up stuff.

If there is metal debris in the pan , there is more troubles that cleaning may not help.

will try that, thanks. Hope I don't have to take trans out, still recovering from installation.
