I have a '78 th350 behind a 327, I rebuilt the tramission with a B&M rebuild kit, and a shift kit.
When driving with the transmission in 'drive' it shifts from 1st to 3rd gear, skipping 2nd. if the transmission is shifted down into 'low' it shifts from 1st to 2nd. the transmission will not down shift into 2nd except manually.
1. No, the transmission only shifts into 2nd when I manually shift it into the gear after drive, which I am assuming is 'low', which starts in 1st and shifts once into 2nd. After it shifts into 2nd I can shift it into 'drive' and it will shift once more.
are you sure you have the check balls in right location? theres only 2 balls goes back in with that shift improver kit location #1 & #2 the other 2 balls through away! or you may have bent the S hook oh the shift location valve in the valve body or your valve body got junk in it did you ever use tranny before you rebuilt it? and if so it shift ok?
than if it worked and than stopped, i say got some dirt in valve body hanging up the valve for automatic shifting hate to say it but may have to drop the valve body and clean it out or try another valve body! i just rebuilt a 350 turbo have a valve body laying here, where you at? i'm in NC. or gasket let go between the plates and valve body, any way you look at it your going to be dropping valve body again!
let me know what you find when you drop the valve body just for my own pieace of mind! if any other info needed just ask!, and the 2 holes you drilled in the plate to 3/16 go up one more size help out with pressure and a lil harder shift!
no major work done besides the rebuild kit...but still in the process of dropping the valve body and checking for dirt in any holes.
