TH350 Problem

Hoping I can get some help. Driving my 78 P/U the other day, I felt something strange in the trans (th350). Since then I have no 2nd gear! no slippage, no strange noises, no burnt fluid, nothing. Now will shift straight from 1-3 in Drive, 1 2 work in manual.

Any Ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Joe

It could be you have a leaking intermediate servo, and the higher line pressure in manual 2 is enough to apply the band, but regular line pressure in D is not.

A broken intermediate sprag.

manual 2nd will hold because the coasting band is applied.

D'oh!! I completely forgot about the sprag!!! Must have woke up on the stupid side today, !

Just an quick Q, Crosley have you ever heard of putting the OWC's from a 700R4 into a 350? I've been told with some finagling of the selective plates they will fit and be stronger than the originals, but haven't had the time to try it.

thanks

Guess I was hoping it would be something that wouldn't require rebuild. Bought the truck last year because the 700R4 in my pontiac went out No luck at all lol. and no, I am not hard on my Tranny's. Just bad luck. Well guess it's time for 2 rebuilds!

the later 700 center support and roller clutch assembly will fit the t-350. There are serveral different thickness of the wide sprag 700 unit, so checking clearance of the L/R clutch pack is very important.

the inner race fits both designs.

Thanks, just what I was looking for. Don't know when I'll finally have the time to get back on the project, the wife has me running ragged. Sorry it took so long to reply, my computer has been a little on the fubar side lately.
