th350 shifting

I have a 79 camaro with a th350 the car shifted fine untill I switched the rear end to 4.56:1 now it wants to shift from 1 st to third skipping 2 the trans is stock. Is there a way to adjust this. I noticed something odd with the trans it has C4 welded on the top of the case I am fairly sure its the original trans from the car a 79 camaro, it has a bolt on tail shaft and the slotted cable connection at the carb and I didnt see any electrical connections on it.

Adjust the vacuum modulator, by turning the screw clockwise one turn and see what happens. If this helps, you can go one more turn, otherwise you will need to go to lighter governor springs. You can cheat on this by taking out the lighter (less resistance) spring in the governor and leaving in the heavier one. This will make part throttle shifts later. This works on 700R4's too.

I missed this post earlier... apologies.

Going to 4.56 gears will change the drive shaft speed a great deal.

I would think better results with a governor weight & spring kit would be needed to alter the shift points to where you like them under throttle.

A trail & error method is needed.

These gov weight kits were sold by Summit , B&M and similar places .

post back if more help is needed...

You can mod the governor cheaper with some hardware store nails.

See my post here for info.
