TH350 Wont Shift Outta First !!!!!!!!!!

I have a Chevy truck with a turbo 350 that just all of a sudden stopped shifting out of first gear.
I have changed the modulator to no avail, and the fluid is a little discolored, but what is strange is that first and reverse do NOT slip and are strong as can be, but it just won't shift.
I got good vacuum at the modulator, and I am stumped. dunno if it dropped the 2nd &3rd bands or a valve sticking or what.
Anyone know???

OK...... you say there is proper vacuum to the modulator.

Have you pulled the governor out? Round cover near the back end of the trans on the side. The cover presses on. It is easier to remove the cover than to drive it back on! Be careful.

Is the detent cable hooked up? Is the inner cable free and moves in & out? Is the cable melted and stuck fully pulled out?

In photo I posted.... the photo shows the plastic governor gear can wear out and the gov stops rotating.

TH350 Shifting Problems

I pulled the governor out and the gear is broke off, and I cannot find an 11 tooth gear to replace it anywhere. how hard is it to replace both of the gears so I can match them back up??

I had a tranny tech tell me that the bushings in the tail shaft and just inside the tranny tail behind tail shaft were worn out and that is what caused the apple coring and breaking of the gear.

I just need the cheapest and quickest route to getting my truck back on the road. it's getting close to 300,000 miles and I don't wanna have to put too much back into it.

smart trans tech...... the bushing in the case can wear out and the output shaft drops down onto the plastic gov gear. The gear wears out or breaks.

There is no replacement gear on the output shaft... those teeth are cut into the shaft. The plastic gov gear must be replaced and may break again quickly if the bushings are worn out as mentioned by your trans tech.

Most of your Autozone , CSK stores will not have this governor gear. A trans shop should be able to help you.

good luck
