TH350 transbrake question

Hi Guys, hope some of you may help on this.

We have several TH350 transmissions which we have modified using TCI transbrake valve body and aluminium direct and forward clutch drums.
The instructions tell us to weld the sun gear snap ring to the front of the gear itself – “to prevent snap ring problems”.

We have done this and twice have had the snap ring break, causing the trans to seize when the fragments lodged themselves in the planetary gears.
We understand that the sudden bite of the forward gear engaging and reverse releasing can cause quite a shock to parts during the launch, however at present we are leaving on a footbrake (for various reasons that I won’t go into here), and the snap ring broke after two mild shake down passes. :(
Has anyone else experienced this?
Would it not be better to not weld this component so that the resulting assembly wouldn’t be so rigid and more prone to breaking?
Or should the weld perhaps be between sun shell and snap ring rather than gear and snap ring?
Do other makes of transbrake kits also instruct to weld this part?
Many thanks for any answers, the third snap ring has been welded and I’m finishing the reassembly of the trans this evening to race this weekend, but any info would be very useful for the next one!!

Cheers
