Ok I finally got the torque converter set right, 1 /18" from the TC mounting brackets to the face of the bellhousing. Everything's hooked up, vacuum lines etc, the fluid's full. I started off adding 4 quarts and I started the truck and let it run for a minute then added 5 more quarts and let the engine run for a few minutes. Then I went through all the gears several times, note I was still parked I never took off in it, I checked the fluid and it was about a half a quart low so I added some and went through the gears again and checked the fluid.
This is a fresh rebuilt TH350- so I took off down the road and it shifted from 1st to 2nd fine but wouldn't shift into 3rd. So I come to a stop and dropped into low 1 and shifted into 2nd fine but still no 3rd. If I take off in drive it goes through 1st and 2nd and then just winds up and if I suddenly let off the gas it drops out of gear like it's in neutral and I have to stop and it will catch again. Not sure what would cause this, any ideas?
The original problem with this tranny was that the clip on the linkage thats inside the oil pan had broke off and it dropped into 1st and wouldnt come out of it. It was in 1st gear no matter what position the linkage was in but I figure while they had it apart I'd go ahead and have it rebuilt ya know.
