TH400 kickdown

I am thinking about making my own kickdown for the th400 in my pickup. Where would be the best place (engine or in cab under accelerator) for the switch? Also, do you want the switch activated at wot or earlier? Thanks in advance.

What year truck?

See my photo album. I mounted a stock switch on the back stud of the carb and inserted an adjustable trigger plate in the carb linkage. Works great.

Thanks for the reply. I'm using a 350 sbc out of a 78 chevy p/u. The throttle is a cable as opposed to your threaded setup. I was thinking of just making a bracket and mounting a micro switch on it with a long actuator arm. Would setting it so it would kick down at say 3/4 throttle be about right?

I would use the factory switch because it has a long throw after the switch has been activated. So, it doesn't stop the throttle after it has been depressed. They don't cost much and any chevy dealer will have it in stock.

Yes, I have mine kicking in at about 3/4 throttle and it works nicely.

If you are running a Q-jet, you may be able to find a stock th400 kick down setup at your local U-Pull-It type auto salvage yard. Otherwise, I'm sure you could come up with something similar with a little fabrication and some shade tree engineering.
