TH400 leaking

Here's the deal, After sitting for a year (outside and unheated) my trans is leaking from the pan as well as the speedo connection. When parked I do not believe it was over-full nor did it leak.
I am getting ready to put all new gaskets on it, but wonder if there could be other issues that result from sitting too long? Is there such a thing as the valve body sticking in a position that allows ATF within the transmission to drain back into the pan? Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

29guy

400 leaking

Upon start up, the converter is "charged" with fluid, from the sump to the pump, then to the pressure regulator valve.

The converter fills and to a certain degree, stays charged with fluid after you shut the engine off, for awhile.

Normal wear on bushings, splines, leaks because of thermal cycles,[metal not flat anymore] and a host of other things, will cause the torque converter to drain back into the sump[pan] after some time.

Also, especially in your case[sitting for a year] seals and gaskets will be impacted by non use.

If everything was fine when you parked it, then everything should be ok now, with the exception of your various small leaks.

Thanks

Pontiacjosh and briscoe,

Thanks for the replies, I am going to replace the gaskets, check the vent and see how it does.

Regards,
