Does any know if there are any alternative speedo pickup/sensors available for this type of situation or am I just going to have to learn to say "sorry officer, but I really have no idea how fast I was going"? Guesstimating by tach is an idea.... but if anyone knows of a better idea, I'm listening.
Was this trans originally out of a mid-60s Olds full size? Those cars actually drove the speedo cable off one of the front wheels and the trans typically came with the normal speedo hole blocked off. The other alternative is that this is a truck 4x4 trans case.
Either way, you can easily knock out the freeze plug and a TH400 speedo driven gear adapter should be able to bolt right in. The question is, does your trans have the speedo drive gear on the output shaft? If it is, problem solved. If you, you'll need to pull the tailhousing to press a new drive gear on the output shaft. Again, either way, this should not be a big deal unless you have some sort of weird oversize output shaft.
