ok here is what i have done, and i have a problem. i am not a trans builder so i am not really familiar with all the technical names for all the parts, but i have built a functional trans. ok i pulled the pump, pulled out the first drum, the second drum,the band, a clutchpack. now i have a problem, i guess i am at a piston, i removed the snaprings, but the piston wont come out, there appears to be one more clutchpack behind it. is there something im missing. maybe a clip on the bottom of the case near the valve body. there seems to be no way to get the piston out, i even held the trans by the tail shaft and bumped it on the ground a few times, nothing. what am i overlooking? i doubt it is stuck, everything in this tranny came apart eaisly so far, i was even able to pull the pump by hand.

you're talking about the center support. there is a bolt that you'll have to remove that's hidden underneath the valve body. it's a 3/8" 12-point bold, and it's hollow. take it out, and the center support will come right out......but don't forget to put it back in, and it MUST BE TORQUED TO SPEC!!! you might want to take a trip to your local parts store and see if they have a transmission overhaul manual that has the th400 in it. in my opinion, it's the easiest trans to go through, but there are some things you need to know about it when doing it. the book should be less than $20, and is worth every penny.
