Baddbob, that was a great idea, so I decided to give it a shot. I figured what the hell, I can't make it look any worse than its right now, right? I took out the third brake light and with a series of long pry bars and wood shims I was able to raise that entire area flush with the rest of the panel and eliminated that long crease along the back from the roof support. I used a suction cup to pull up some of the other areas I couldn't reach, some stayed, some will pop back down when touched hard enough. So on those areas I am thinking of pulling them back up so they stay and go from underneath in the cab and spray some expanding foam in the double walled areas. This will help 2 fold for me I hope, one it will expand enough to keep it from oil canning back down and two it will help insulate the top for when it hits 110* in the summer here.

After using my D/A and a 60 grit disc, I removed all the paint and I think the most filler that will be needed is only going to be about 1/16" - 1/8" thick in most areas.

I'll post some pics of the progress.

The easiest way to do it, is to plate over it,Just over the low spot's.Then do your body work and it's done,Bye Bye old roof.

re: Is there any hopes for this roof?

Well, I finally completed this major project. It turned out better than I expected. I ended up using about a quart of Z-Grip to level out the small areas but sanded most of that right back off. I filled the whole cavity with high expanding foam and now I have no oil canning. I sprayed 2 coats of self etching primer, 2 coats of filler primer and 3 coats of body color and clear coat. Now all I have to do is color sand it and buff it out. Is it perfect? No, but it sure looks a hell of a lot better than before. I thank all the guys who gave me some good ideas and got the wheels turning in my head on how to accomplish this task.

re: Is there any hopes for this roof?

Nice job. But get the little white strip of overspray off of the moulding. LOL!!!

Now let me ask this question and see what other think or if I am way off in my way of thinking. A bodyshop wanted $1000 to replace the skin. Those trucks are a dime a dozen. Wouldn't it had been cheaper to:
1- Just replace the cab
2-Go to the junkyard, have a complete roof cut off of a cab, pull the windshield, pull the back window, and put a complete roof on instead of a skin?

The job was done way cheaper but if the damage was more extreme to where you would have some hours in it I would think the other options would be easier than reskinning.

Yeah, I seen the white strip of paint, I'm still learning this taping thing. I will be replacing the back window with a slider so it didn't really matter to me anyhow.

To answer your other questions; 1- too much work to replace the entire cab with all the wiring and all. 2- Yes, this was going to be an option for me if I couldn't make this repair work out. Especially if this was going to be a resto project I would have gone to the wrecking yard or just put a new skin on, but this is a $2000 truck I bought from a Fleet company in Phoenix that will be used around my ranch to haul horses, some hay and feed supplies. My wife just wanted it to look better than it was so when she went to the feed store she wouldn't be embarrassed. (Must be a girl thing) I could have cared less. Now that the top looks so great to her; she asked me if I could re-paint the whole truck Who knows, maybe I will go buy some cheap Nason paint and shoot the truck so it can give me some experience for when I get ready to paint my Mustang.

re: Is there any hopes for this roof?

If you are looking for cheaper paint kits, try this place:

http://www.equipmentcolor.com/

The owner is a member here. I did my daily driver in a non-metallic medium blue a year ago and it is holding up great and is never garaged. I used their industrial paint single stage urethane called LIC40 by Valspar. The full one gallon kit in that color was $88 a year ago. They mailed me a full color chart on a previous order. Lots of nice solid colors to choose from. The stuff sprays real nice, and seems very chip resistant to the beating my car gets.
