Post Is there any probs with my ign?

2 years ago I put NGK's in my car. They were the cheap 1 dollar and some odd cents. Anyways, when I was permenently removing my A/C compressor, smog pump, and belt,I decided to check the plugs on that side to see if they were ok because prior I was getting rough idle and backfires, and I saw that on the front plug it was busted into pieces and the core was broke. What could have been the problem? Well since then I put Motorcraft double platnum in it and it's fine, are those any good plugs? I hope so for $3.60 a piece.

Cool

That plug was probably cracked prior to or during instillation. While running the engine the plug disintigrated itself/fell apart. I like these platnum plugs but ran the NGK's in my drag bikes for yearrrrssss! The NGK's were never a problem for me. I think you got a bad plug.

Well I'll say this. I have Accel wires and cap & rotor, and a Borg Warner coil. I advanced my timing just a bit because it was pinging when I replaced everything.

if you advance your timing more while it is already pinging, it will make it ping more.

a plug is a plug. they are only as good as the rest of the ignition. plugs will not make magical power. how ever some plugs do fire better in certain conditions.

but going to platinums will not yield more power they will just not wear as fast.

they rest of your ignition set up is fine. but if your still running the computer. you need to disconnect the timing plug and check you timing before messing with it. then reinstall it.

on a stock 5.0 they seem to like 13 to 15 degrees advance best. dont mess with the fuel pressure more is not better.
if you ping then try higher octane fuel like 89 or 92.
