Thermostat

If I am running a 180 thermostat. Most likely the engine oil is hotter than 180????

Yes.......the oil is most likely 40 to 50 degrees warmer than the engine coolant. Not a problem.....oil needs to be in that range to properly lubricate the engine. It also helps eliminate condensation from the oil.

WHY are you concerned ?

I was running a 160 thermostat for the summer. But on cool nights it would run in the 170's. I bumped up to the a 180 thermostat to make sure the oil would have efficient heat to burn off condensation and sludge......

Thanks.....

ALWAYS run at least a 180 (or a 195) unless you must have the last 3 horsepower possible.. Anything cooler will wear the heck out of your engine. If you worry about the oil temp. use synthetic Mobil 1 oil or Amsoil. You can't hurt them.
Higher temps and better oil will get you more MPG too..... if that makes a difference.
