Thermostats

Just curious, besides allowing the engine cooling flow to start from the engine through the radiator, what other differences, if any, would there be in running a 165 degree thermostat versus a 185 thermostat?

Engine: 327 cui
Tran: 350 Auto

Why lower the temperature to 165?

Yes, the thermostat opens at 165 instead of 185. Other than that all that happens is wear goes up, the oil keeps more water in solution, acid formation in the oil and sludge formation increases. If this isn't a race only car that sees between race maintenance, this isn't a good idea.
