Think I got a rear end! WHOOO HOOO!
A frind of mine called last night and has a '76 Nova. The rear end is all most the same width as my '49 Chevy truck torque tube. Dose any have any idea what size gears were in a '76 Nova? It has a SBC and auto tranny. Its still under the car so I havent gotten a good look at it yet. Thanks!

between 3.08 and 3.73 something like that...

you can do three things, either look at the VIN, and check the manual, or the tag on the rear end itself, and lastly you can spinn the wheels simultaniously and count the number of revolutions the yoke makes, and devide the two..
|
Or if there's no tag on the rear cover to tell for sure take the cover off. Count the number of teeth on the ring and on the pinion gear. Divide those numbers and that's your ratio. Ex. 30 teeth (ring) divided by 10 teeth (pinion) = 3.00 to 1 ratio. 37 (ring) divided by 10 (pinion) = 3.70 gear set.

TAke the rear wheels off the ground. put the car into gear. see how many times you half to spin the wheel to get the drive-shaft to spin once. have someone with you to mark if the drive-shaft spone once
