third gen camaro tranny swap

ive got a 86 camaro formerly v6 5spd car and i plan on dropping a 350 and a auto in. im still deciding between a th400 and a glide(gunna be a street/strip car) i was just wondering if anyone has preformed this swap and how they went about making a crossmember, i cant reason the price for a swap kit for something i can fab up myself i have a good idea but im just looking for furter input... my idea is to install subframe connectors and then mount a crossmember to that

Your car had the TH-700R4 as the automatic tranny option, look in my Transmission Information sticky post and find the specifications picture with the included measurements, one transmission or another will almost directly fit, but this information will help you out with knowing where you will have to make changes and or adjustments.

I believe you will find a torque arm from the rear diff that runs up to the tranny cross memeber& mounts there. You may want to re-mount that torque arm

if i got this right

It is my understanding that the tranny in a 3rd gen camaro is in on a tilt. This would require a cable mounted shifter. Not sure on crossmember fit. For track use, go to the powerglide with a tranny brake.
