thm 200 questions

ok heres the problem.
the car was parked for almost 3 mos. it was started often(weekly) never driven in that three mos. the day i started driving it the following happened....
drove for an hour and a half with no problem. i park the car. 10 mins. latter get in it to drive and it wont shift out of 1st gear, (gear shifter moves fine but its not shiftin up while driving) so i go to the nearest gas station(1/2 mile down the road) to get tranny fluid. i open my hood to check and maybe fill fluid and i smelled a burning smell like burt oil. i check the fluid its low so iad appropriate amout. checked fluid again its fine. start driving again with no problem. 5 mins later i arrive at my destination and park it. made a few phone calls to see what could have possibly happened and whether or not i should worry, no idea what may have happened, and no worries if its fine now. after 30 min. of sitting i get back in it and attemp to move my car. no reverse. when you pull the shifter from park to reverse, it makes a "clank" noise. but its still in park. when you put in in nuetral it goes into drive and shifts normaly when driven. put in in 2 or 1 it does the same drives fine and shifts through all gears, it dont stay in the low gear like it should.
i was told to drop the pan, filter, and valve body and check valve body for stuck valves, get them unstuck put lucas in it and reassemble with new filter. i just wanted to know if n e 1 out there had ever done this before and could possibly walk me through it or even direct me to photos of a valve body from a thm200

It sounds as if you have melted/fused the forward clutches together. This happens when a trans has been run low on fluid for extended periods. If you go to reverse and it acts as if the trans is in a major bind and does not move, but goes forward OK, then it sounds like a classic case of fused forward clutches. This means a trans overhaul.

Drop the pan, look for clutch material & metal. Also horrible smelling fluid is a good indicator.
