THM speedo gear seal

I have a THM 200 that's leaking oil out the center of the speedo cable (not leaking that much, but making a mess under the car). Is the seal around the end of the gear replaceable, or do I have to just replace the whole gear housing? This is not the o-ring seal between the housing and trans case.

Anyone know where I could get either? I was not able to find them through my local parts store, is this a GM item or can a trans shop get it?

Thanks,
-Michael

Any GOOD trans shop in your area will be able to reseal the speedo output assembly ypu have. Look at the driven gear (one cable attaches to); make sure that the plastic gear is smooth and straight in the seal area. If the gear is worn, replace it or it will continue to leak at the speedo cable. The speedo housing will come out of the trans and should have all new seals/o-rings replaced........

Thanks, I'll give my trans shop a call...

But, I had already replaced the outer oring when it started leaking, and I noticed the inside of the gear housing was all scored up. I don't know how that could happen with a plastic gear. Would I be better off just replacing the whole housing and gear?

If the gear shaft is chewed up/marred, then the housing may also be damaged. If this is the case, replace both. I have seen this many times...

Yeah, the gear shaft seemed a bit rough and the shaft housing was very scratched. I'll go ahead and replace the whole driven gear assembly.

Would that scratched gear shaft cause some speedo needle fluctuations? I had replaced the speedometer and cable with NOS GM replacements, and still get a needle flutter around 25 - 30 mph. I don't know if that has anything to do with the driven gear or just some other odd vibration.
