Thoughts on a car??

My wife and I are in the hunt for a different car. We have found a decent looking, well riding, and straight stopping car (from 60mph). It's a '96 Buick Skylark Custom 4 door. It has 122,000 miles on the all original 2.4 DOHC and 4 speed auto trans drivetrain. Is that a decent and reliable combination? We just don't want a total lemon. Any thoughts would be great. We need to let the couple that has it now know by Sunday night. Thanks.

In a while, Chet.

Buicks have been high up on the JD Power and Associates list for a long time now. My girlfriend, her sister, and her dad all had or have high mileage late model Buicks (2 '95 regals and an '89 century) and have never had any problems with them. These cars were all V6 models though, I can't help you with the four banger. Buicks are very solid cars and last a lot longer than other GM models. If all the fluids are clean I'd say it's definately worth a chance.

I don't think they ever put a DOHC 2.4 in a cavi. There was a SOHC 2.4 in the Z24's. The DOHC 2.4 is the same motor that is used in the Grand AM GT models. Fairly peppy engine. However, they did build a skylark GS (LS?) that has the 3800 Series II in it

$1750 is the price the present owners are asking. Kind of a family deal. Wife's cousin's girlfriend (if you follow). I asked a couple of people down in my hometown area about it, and they said it should be a good car too. I get the feeling that there'll be a Buick in our driveway by next weekend. Finally, no more wrenching on that durn Oldsmopile. That thing is the reason I'm going bald.... Thanks guys.

In a while, Chet

In a while,Chet.

If that deal doesn't go I would look for a Camry. Best car made, period. And I don't even like imports all that much.
