Thoughts - Comp Nostalgia Plus N+LS6 Cam

Considering a Comp Nostalgia Plus N+LS6 Cam 11-670-4 for 454.
The advertised duration is 276/283 and the lift is .530/.524

Its going in a 1970 Chevelle. Its a 1978 361958 Block and 336781 Heads. It is running flat top Speed Pro HyperEutectic pistons with 8.0 to 8.5:1 compression. Backed by a TH350 and 12 Bolt Posi with 3.73 gears. My only vacumn demand is power brakes.
Looking to play... Not really planning to race it. Just want to have some fun off the line.

Has anyone had any experience with this cam?

I think the compression will be closer to 7.5:1 with your setup.
942cc cylinder
120cc chambers
10cc gasket
5cc deck height
6cc valve relief

Your compression is way too low for that cam. 9.25 to 9.5:1 would be ideal.

Considering the gear and compression ratio, I would recommend a cam with 212 to 216 on the intake and 220 to 224 on the exhaust with 108-110 LSA.

that cam has 229/236, 112 lsa, with 1800 to 6200 rpm power band.

Its going to be a dud, dude. unless you were to bolt a 6-71 blower in it.

Swap the heads to a 96cc 396 head and thin .022" head gaskets or swap the pistons (prefered) for the right ones (25cc dome) to get the cr right.

Then run the real deal 1970 454-450hp LS-6 solid lifter cam crane #969961
if you want a real deal "+" version of the LS-6 cam use Comp cams "Magnum Muscle LS-6 cam" comp#11-551-5. requires the premium Magnum valvetrain.

A lot lot more fun "off the line".

Note: when combining aftermarket domed pistons with BBC oval port heads you must check combustion chamber wall edge to piston dome side clearance. Usually just a slight minor clearance grinding of the chamber wall is all that is necessary to clear the edge of the piston dome. Not hard to do but you must check this.
