Joe, it shouldn't be a nightmare. You have to make sure that everything you are getting is Vortec compatible. You also need to understand what makes a Vortec a Vortec so you can understand what makes them tick. I believe the exhaust ports on a Vortec are about .200 inches higher than a standard head. Make sure your headers will clear everything being up that much higher, things like framerails, steering linkage, etc.

Joe, here's a real nice article on the Vortec. Look at the pics showing the difference in intake port height. Hope this tells you all you need to know.

Good! Now, do yourself a huge favor. Go to Scoggin Dickey and order their vortec top end kit. Vortecs that are modified to accept .520 or .540 lift cams, I believe they are set up with guide plates (not sure), head bolts, manifold bolts, gaskets, and vortec manifold. Nice setup. Orrrrrrrrrr, you could go to Edelbrock and get yourself a set of aluminum E-tec heads which are said to make 15-20 hp more than the cast iron vortecs. While you're on the phone with Edelbrock order up one of their manifolds to fit those E-tec heads.
