Honestly???? I think you're paying WAAAAAAY too much. Your build adds up to about $10,500 !!! Summit Racing is a very good outfit but their prices are high. Scoggins-Dickey Chevrolet sells a bunch of crate engines, they have the turnkey crate 502/502 for $8699. Or if you want to assemble the same engine yourself it's $8182 w/ a Milodon 7 qrt pan.

It's your money but I would do a little more shopping. By the way, did you ever call Jim at Orange Engine like I recommended in a pm a while back?? He could build you an arse kickin 496 for a lot less......

well luckily for me I haven't bought the engine, so nothing is set in stone yet. I threw this out to a good buddy of mine who has been a mechanic for 20 some odd what years. He suggested a 540.

496 seems to be the big block everyone is talking about, if i do decide to go with a 496 I got this good build sheet to go by, dyno's out to about 700 hp with the weight of the car being at around 3,200 lbs that guarantee's 9 et's. Monte carlo is around 3,400 lbs, I'll have to do some fabricating maybe replace the firewall with stainless, plexi glass windows etc...and with a 3500 Stall converter I'd be good to go.

My run down to huntington beach got set back. I did get the crank though, Scat 9000 series. Now it's just all about finding the time to go down there. I'm going to try and make it down there maybe mid-August sometime. definitely give Jim a heads up calling and letting him know I'm on my way when I'm ready to go down there though.

yeah man, 327Nut is right, that was dropping some serious change brother.
Hell, GMPP sales a 376 LS w/ 515hp for $8,500 or somewhere in that neighborhood, intake to pan.

Oh and just a word of caution, I would buy an adjustable push rod tool to measure for correct length and purchase the pushrods last. THey are always, always different lengths from engine to engine(for me anyway).

Best deal for assembled B.B. is at the chevy parts counter.
I am building a 496 right now for my 67 camaro, so far parts about 2Gs havent bought heads cam etc. this was just for crank, all brgs,H beams ,mahle pistons and rings.Ive had good luck with Eagle stuff and mahle.
