Post Thousand thanks

Thanks guys, for helpin' me out.

I finally got the distributor fully seated, pointing at the number one plug wire on the cap.

I also got number 1 at TDC. I had to crank on the three "minor" bolts on the crankshaft harmonic balancer. The bolts are now nearly stripped, but at least I got the thing to TDC!

Not bad for 8 hours of work, huh?

Thumbs up

OOOPS! <img src="graemlins/sweat.gif" border="0" alt="[sweat]" /> there is a large diameter retention bolt right in the relieved center of the balancer, a 7/8" or 15/16" socket fits-can't remember which. Anyway good luck with the startup routine, let us know how she runs.

i find that the best way to get leverage to turn the motor by hand is to grab the alt. belt on either side of the lower pulley and use the belt to turn the engine that way you dont strip or snap anything. depending on what your setup is like you can use any one of the belts.
