thread size for average 5lb slide hammer

I'm trying to make a vise grip with welded on metal so it's like a pair of duck bill pliers w/ teeth. Then I want to weld on a long nut to the end of it so I can screw it into my 5 lb slide hammer but it's at work and don't know what size bolt to get to screw it into the slide hammer Anyone know?

btw, I'm making this so I can pull multiple studs from a stud gun at the same time.

Any reply appreciated.

nevermind, I think it's a 5/8" x 18. I'll get that and hope it's right. It's listed for those newer style slide hammers with the t handle so I hope it works with this tool. Anyhow, I'll post up pics of the tool and review it when it's done. Sounds a lot easier to deal with then those stupid hook things they try to sell you.

Get yourself a nice thread gauge and you can find this out. I wouldn't live without one in my tool box.

I have one with my tap and die set but my slide hammer is at work so I couldn't check. I just googled and found out one manufacture that actually tells you what the size and thread is for THEIR 5 lb but mentioned it MAY fit with other attachments so I just guessed. :drunk: I took a long look at a 5/8 "x18 bolt at the store to joggle my memory. I'd say it's about the same size and the only other thread size they had for that was an 11, and I'm sure the threads weren't that big. Anyhow, the tool is made and I think it's the right size and will work good. Even cut in some grooves on the duck bill to hold the studs. Should work out fine.

On another note, I just saw dent pro has a new 110v studless stud gun for $650!!!! Apparently, it's just like their 220v that's around $1000 but probably not as powerful. If I were on the market for a stud gun I'd just get that!

That slide handle puller might have a 5/8" thread, but it also might be an ACME 5/8 like I found mine to be - dammit  ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trapezoidal_thread_forms)

it worked but I realized I like the control better with the regular slide hammer. I think it will be handy though when I need more pulling force.
