Thread Tags Limit

Hi,

First off, I want to say that the new tags feature is great. I hope all members take the time to add appropriate tags to all of the threads they create or come across that don't have any.

My question is can the number of tags allowed per thread be raised? Presently, the number of tags per thread is limited to a maximum of five. While that seems like a decent number, I believe it is not enough for large threads that cover a very big variety of information.

I honestly cannot say what would be a good maximum number, but off the top of my head, I think twenty five is far more than enough and provides a nice cushion for extreme cases.

Thank you

Also how's about allowing more than two tags per member, per thread? Three, four at least would be good.

I am sorry to show my ignorance but what is a thread tag? I am missing something here.

Hi John,

Tags are basically like keywords that can be assigned by us, the users, to a thread. A person can then search for threads that contain the same assigned keyword(s), or tags.

Below, boxed in red, is where you will find the tags, if any are assigned (no tags were assigned to this thread when the image was copied, so the box is empty). You can add or change tags by clicking on the "Edit Tags" link on the right side of the Tags box. If you want to search using tags, you can click on the "Tags" link on the left of the Tags box.

Clicking on the "Tags" link brings up what is called the "Tag Cloud". This "cloud" contains all the tags that have been assigned to threads on this forum. You will notice that some tags are in a larger font than others. The larger the font, the more popular the tag, and vice versa. Also, all tags are always displayed in lower case letters.

If you click on any particular tag, you will see a complete list of all the threads that contain that tag. For example, clicking on "chevy" brings up the list seen below. Of course, this is a very small list considering the hundreds and thousands of threads that exist on Hotrodders. But as more and more tags are assigned, these lists will grow much larger.

For a more detailed explanation, please check out this wiki: Tag (metadata)

Hope this helps

Will you guys be adding a "tag search feature" on the main page? Right now, the only way I know to access it is by going to a thread, and clicking on "Tags" to be taken to the "Tag Cloud".

Thanks
