I plugged the case under the pump like Jakeshoe shows in his posts. My other builds work great with the same mods. Thanks for the pics I'll compare them to my plate tomorrow.

Well looking at those photos Crosley I have the late style plates. I don't know, this is wearing me out. I'm going to rebuild another one and replace it altogether I guess.

Have you replaced or checked the intermediate sprag the one on the direct drum ? , not just by rotating it ... Take it apart and replace the element and make sure the inner race is splines to the drum correctly .

I have seen the ones that have a removable inner race break off ..

Since the foward clutch does not release when going to second it cant netural out it will just stay in first until you reach a speed fast enough to achieve 3rd . Look at the sprag !

Update

Well I finally got the trans pulled and tore down today. The direct clutch pack is burnt and the apply piston is roached on one side, guessing it wasn't getting fluid applied correctly or something. I air checked it again before I took the clutches out and I could see bubbles coming out between the pump halves. Again guessing this isn't correct, so I have to order some parts and check everything over again!

B&D the hardened intermediate sprag, and roller clutch are new and the lugs and splines on the drum are in good shape. Thanks though.

I have seen one guy manage to put the roller clutch element on backwards , it would freewheel both ways which gave him no 2nd ...

You could have mixed up pump halfs ! because not all pump halfs interchange , they will cause crossleaks ect . like you seen when air checking pump .
