Throttle Cable problem

Well I'm glad it happened sitting in my driveway and not on the road. Today I was working on the ride and went to start her up. When I did the engine came up at about 3/4 full throttle! I shut it off and started looking aound. On my throttle cable there is a small tubular piece of plastic or rubber that looks like it connects the flexiable part of the cable to the cable end that attach to the bracket. I guess the heat finally got to it and it's begun do desintergrate. VERY SCARY, it might have happened on the road. Now I'm faced with either replacement of the throttle cable or making something to replace the plastic/rubber part. While I was in there I also notice the cable was not pulling correctly so I fixed that too. Any ideas on if I should make an aluminum piece to replace the rubber or just opt for a new cable? I don't think I'm going to find a Jag cable off the shelve so could I use a generic one?

Regards
Mark

JD, check out Lokar throtle cable assembly. They have worked great for me and are usually an easy install. You may have to purchase their pedal assembly as well, but you will not regret it.

UPDATE!

Well I tore into the throttle assm. and found more than a few things. The PO had modified the QJet bracket. They had welded on an extension that changed the cable position to the current setup. I think IF I can cut the new stuff off I can use an off the shelf cable. The peddle is another problem. I'll have to look at the Lockar stuff and see IF they have something that will work. The peddle that is in there now is a odd shape. I'll try and take photos for show and tell.

Mark
