Throttle Linkage vs throttle cable

I'm cleaning up my firewall and welding holes shut. One of my holes was for the throttle linkage to go through. I plan on using a throttle cable....

Is there any reason I need the existing hole? Can I just weld shut and drill another hole for where the throttle cable penetrates the firewall.

I new to all this and I don't fully understand how the cable works....so if I'm way off base, calibrate me....

thanks

George

You're absolutely correct. Just weld in the hole and drill another one when it comes time to install the cable. Chances are that the cable will require a smaller hole anyway and if you're swapping engines you may want to relocate the hole as well.
