Tilt steering lever - 2000 Malibu - NOT Hotrod

I snapped the tilt steering lever on a 2000 malibu. I have the new lever and looking for any tips on replacement. Know this isn't hotrod related but seems there is a lot of conversations about late model steering columns - thought you guys might have some tips on how to replace this lever.

Thanks

A late model chevy or malibu specific forum may be a better help- maybe try "chevytalk" forum

Many (all?) steering columns require pulling the steering wheel to replace the tilt lever. Your steering wheel has an airbag. Bad things can happen if it goes off accidently while you are inches away from it, with tools in you hand, etc. Make sure you know the proper procedure to disconnect the airbag (electrically) and reconnect when finished-if you're going to remove the steering wheel

I remember from years ago some levers were made to be popped out and replaced so I went on the net and found this...

http://www.automotiveforums.com/f113-malibu.html
selected item #173...steering_column/tilt_lever.

Sorry, I couldn't get the link to work, but it said for the 2001 Malibu column plastic covers had to be removed and the broken lever had to be pulled straight out with a hard yank and then new one was popped in
It may work for your application.

73oldsman....Thanks...Don't know how I missed that post...The replacement lever looks like it should "pop" right in so guess I will yank on the piece still in there...

Glad to help. That site has helped me out on several problems in the past. My memory's not as good as it used to be. Thank goodness Al Gore invented the internet for people like me!
