Ok. chevy 350, th400 tranny. pulled them out together today and had to tilt it quite a bit with tranny tail down. (i should have drained fluids) anyway, when i got the motor and tranny on my shop floor a handful of motor oil leaked out of my flywheel cover. Can someone school me on why this happened. I know its because of the tilting ,, but details.. thanks.

oil on the engine side,rear main seal .wet tranny side pump seal. oil tranny or engine?Bust 'em apart don't loose anything.

ok. it looks like when i tilted it, oil leaked out of the valve covers and down into that area. valve covers were loose from when i checked casting numbers..doh..

Ok i was wrong after cleaning motor, installing new VC gaskets, i tilted motor again, and now with the flywheel cover off i can see oil coming out of rear main.. keep in mind it is very tilted and i would never drive my car at this angle but its leaking alot..meaning lots of drips at normal angle. should the rear main leak at such an extreme angle or is mine just shot.? standing by for answer .. wrenches in hand to pull tranny. thank.s

Just my opinion but I'd call it shot!!!!!!!!! Pull it apart.
