time to buy a bumpstick, opinions please
well i'm at the point where i am ready to buy myself a new cam. has anyone heard of predator cams by midway? if so what can you tell me about them. good or bad. looking at a cam from them with 228 @.050 and about 540 lift. rpm range 2500 - 6000 hydr roller retro fit. also been looking at comp cams 224 @.050 and 525 lift. rpm range 2000 -5500. or comp cam 230 - 560 lift.
i think that the 560 lift is too high but i prefer the operating range. the car is 3800 lbs camaro, 355 sbc, 4:10 rear, 27" tire, 9.5 cr, air gap intake, 2500 stall, not sure on carb, i have a 600 and a 750 holley both vac sec, th350 with manual valve body, ported vortec heads, flow rates comparable to e-tec heads, 600 lift springs, ive 82%, car is used for street/strip. looking to find a cam that will maximize my power output. with this set up should i be going for the 2000-5500 rpm range or the 2500-6000 rpm range. thanks for you're input. keith |

I know nothing about the predator cams, but ordered a Comp Retrofit Roller a few years back. They were willing to do custom grinds, using standard lobes, at no additional charge. I ordered one of the "extreme energy" lobe profiles, with the same lobe on the intake side as the exhaust. I did this because my AFR heads flow extremely well on the exhaust side, so I didn't feel they demanded a dual pattern cam. The point is that you might want to consider a custom ground cam that allows you to not only choose the intake side lobe, but the exhaust and the LSA as well.
And, perhaps Predator will do this for you too. Just offering an idea based on the great service I felt Comp gave me. You might want to try a 'puter dyno. I ran hundreds of runs with different "grinds" in EA3 before I ordered my cam. Good luck. Let us know what you decide. PatM |

Take a look at Herbert Cams at www.dougherbert.com. He is the son of Chet Herbert whodeveloped the first hot rod roller cam back in the 50's. His prices are very reasonable & service is excellent.
