Post Time and time again

I havent yet been able to buy a service man. for my new truck. It's running rough when I bought it and I think the ignition timming is off. While using my light to check it the balancer mark isn't even close to the tab. however, something possesed me to hook up the light on cyl 2 and viola! there's a mark. Do you time a ford 300 straight six on Cyl 2 or is the timming seem okay at 10 BTDC? Thanks for any and all responses

you don't have the wires crossed at the cap do you? ford six times off front cylinder. most six cylinders fire 153624.

You never said what year and set-up you have. Most Fords have what they call a 'spout connecter' that has to be unplugged before you can check base timing. While this connecter is intact the pcm controls the timing and you cannot set base timing if it's electronic ignition. You have to unplug it and then start the engine to set the timing. But with no real information about what you have it's hard to help.

Your right, However, after crawling under the truck I found the mark at an estimated 90' around the balancer. the computer should'nt be advacing the timming that far at IDLE. Today I'm starting from scratch so that I know exactly where the timming is. Thanks for the input
