Time window to edit your own post?

Went to delete a picture with too much personal info within an hour of posting and had no option to edit it....

Time limit was at 15 minutes as I recall when Jon owned this board. After the sale of this board and then software updates, I think the time window is now 30 minutes for self edit

Thank you Crosley and Poncho! I didn't know Jon sold the board. I guess the new management is the reason for the inflated number of viewers each of the forums.

Can you tell me why there is a time limit?

I'm curious also. Other forums I'm on don't have any limit. Even if someone edits something after the fact there is a still a record of the original post that a moderator can access if necessary.

Usually we set a time limit on post editing when there has been an issue in the past with members editing their posts. The mods on the forum may be able to give you a more personal reason why it was applied on this forum.

No. Once the post is edited we cannot see the original content posted. This is a reason why we have the post limit in place.

The time limit was put in place when some members were posting inflammatory comments for others to read, then return later to remove the comments

Well, anyone can have a change of heart, or feelings. Sometimes people say something, but maybe it was the heat of the moment kind of thing. After some thought, decided that wasn't right. Or maybe, you post a picture with more info that you actually meant to post, and want to remove it. Or maybe, once something is posted, your not allowed to take it off. That's kind of bad in a way, if you think about it. Your information is no longer your information...Any comments on that ?

There have been several times I wanted to go back and delete or edit comments I have made. I have found lately that you can no longer delete a post altogether, even immediately afterward. All you can do is edit the contents. When you click on the 'edit/delete' button, the delete option no longer exists.

The ability to remove images from posts is one of the reasons I use Photobucket instead of downloading photos directly to this site. I have posted home made wiring diagrams before that had errors and needed to be edited. If I had downloaded them directly to HRBB I would not be able to remove them without the help of a moderator (as far as I know).

Up until a few months ago, I could replace images on Photobucket and give them the same name/link so the replacement would show up on posts that were months/years old. But they don't let you do that anymore.

Another advantage to using Photobucket is if for some unimaginable reason I get banned from here, I can take my marbles (pics/diagrams) and go home. That's what I did when the HAMB banned me - deleted all my pics and diagrams from their site.
