Post TIMING

IS THERE A CERTAIN WAY THAT A DIST GOES IN ON A 1991 CHEVY 350 TBI? I PUT THE IGNITION MODULE TOWARDS THE FIREWALL AND HAD THE ROTOR POINTING AT THE FRONT OF THE CAP AND I MADE SURE THE FIREING ORDER WAS RIGHT AND ITS STILL SEEMS OUT OF TIME. FROM WHAT I HAVE HEARD THAT AS LONG AS YOU HAVE THE FIRING ORDER RIGHT IN ORDER IT SHOULD NOT MATTER WHERE THE ROTOR IS POINTING AT.CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG.. THANKS

It should not matter which point of the cap you start at to hook up your spark plug wires as long as you have the right firing order and the timing is set using a timing light. In case your not sure ont the firing order it is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.

I BELIEVE IF YOU BRING #1 CYLINDER TO TOP AND THEN TURN YOUR HARMONIC BALANCER WITH A WRENCH WHERE THE MARK ON THE BALANCER POINTS TO 0 ON THE TIMING TAB.THEN ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS POINT THE ROTARY BUTTON BETWEEN #1 AND #8 POINTS ON THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND DROP THE DISTRIBUTER IN THE HOLE.PROVIDING YOUR USING AN HEI DISTRIBUTOR.

You have to bring No.1 cylinder to TDC at the end of the compression stroke. Then line up your timing marks. then stab the dist. with the rotor pointing towards the No.1 post. If you just line up the marks without checking to see if you are on the compression stroke, your setup may be 180 out of time!
