though i despise Auto-Zone, their website has a useful guide for How-Tos. when i punched in for a 99, it automatically came up with a 2.0 DOHC. here is the link for timing belt replacement:
http://autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker...3d8004d685.jsp i switched back to 1997, the last year for the 1.8 SOHC, and it has the same pictures, procedure. perhaps it is a DOHC with only one cam sprocket with a slave exhaust cam(connected via cam chain under the valve cover) ? |

I think it is a 2.0L , there is only one engine for that year , anyways , does anyone have any way to check if it is indeed an interference engine ? I put the new belt on and fired it up , it took a bit because it was full of fuel from the owner trying to start it but once it fired it was rough and smoothed out somewhat but was still a bit rough . I only ran it for about 20 seconds because I had none of the covers or accessories on . Maybe once I can run it for a while it will clean up .
