Hi.

I have a double roller timing chain in my big block chevy. I'm rebuilding the engine. The chain and sprockets don't show any signs of wear. Are they ok to reuse, and what about slop how much is acceptable in a mild 496 for the street.

IMO: If it's open now, and your rebuilding the engine anyway, There just too Cheap NOT to replace now...and you know it's all fresh.

Better than bent over the hood 5000 miles from now...Ya Think?

Agree with Doc.If you have it out it just makes good sense to replace it.

companies like cloyes make over sized sprockets for this purpose and also for blocks that have been align bored.if the chain is tight on the side of directioal rotation and a little loose on the back side you should be ok.otherwise change chain,gear or both.it doesn't pay to use a cheap timing chain and gear set up.
