Timing Cover

I just rebuilt a 66 SBC 283 and I have an oil leak coming from the timing cover seal. I noticed that the harmonic balancer was grooved when I assembled the motor but I didn't think much about it at the time. Anyone have any ideas on a fix without replacing the balancer? Wasn't there a sleeve available at one time to cure this problem? Is there enough room to add another seal(2 of them) to change the seal location? Thanks.

Yes, sleeves are available at most full line auto parts stores.

If you don't want to use the speedy sleeve you can get a front seal that rides in a different location on the ballancer. Fel Pro or Victor

There 2 different oil pan end seals used for Chevy. One is thicker than the other. Are you sure you used the right one. If you didn't it will leak between the oil pan and the timing cover. If your leak is only at the balancer don't worry about the end seals.

Thanks for your info on the speedy sleeves. I will go check out the local parts store. The oil leak is from the balancer not the pan.
Thanks again guys.
