Ideas and guesses

1.When was the last time the timing chain and gears were replaced and/or how many miles are on them?

2. Same questions on the distributor.

3. Any chance of a vacuum leak? Old rubber hoses, etc.

Dial Back Timming Light will sometime show timming jumping around. So try plain jane timming light. Sometime too much Dist Shaft end play will cause timming jumping.
