Timing marks...

This is my first time trying to set the time on my engine, please be patient with me. When standing in front of the engine and looking at the harmonic balancer, I see a groove in the balancer. To the top of the groove there a lines and the letter A. To the bottom of the groove there are lines with BTC. If the timing on my engine is 10* BTC do I line up the pointer on the marks below the groove (where BTC is stamped) or the 10* line above the groove where the A is stamped. This may sound stupid to some of you but this is how you learn, ask the people that know. Thanks for any help you may offer..

timing

If your timing is 10* BTDC the line the crankshaft mark up with the 10* mark stamped B. The A is for ATDC (after top dead center.

timing marks...

Thanks for the info... I would surely have thought I would have used the 10* mark above the groove in balancer. I always thought above the groove was advance and below was retard. I didn't think you would set the initial timing retarded. But this is why I come to this site. I hope to learn much more, thanks again crushem2005...
