It sounds to me that the front vibration dampener has spun in the rubber. In other words you need a NEW FRONT Dampener.

Man, I know how you feel. I have the same problem on my 1967 327ci sbc. Please post if you solve this problem. I even checked to see if my balancer went twisty on me and mine was fine. I put the engine at TDC and checked the timing tab matched the mark.

Sorry I dont have anything to offer but company for your misery.

Jim

make shure you have correct timing tab on engine .try this ,bring #1 cyl up to timing mark TDC and then take off plug wire to #1 put in a spark plug and ground it rotate dist clockwise as far as possible .turn key on and turn dist counter clockwise till you see it fire snug dist then start engine let warm up shut off engine and turn dist a little at a time till kicks back against starter and back off 1/8 to 1/4 inch .engine will run great regardless what marks show .have done that to a few chebbies that i couldnt get marks to work and used it in oval track race cars also good luck

I had a simular problem once after I changed my stock 2brl intake with a 4bl. Could not time it any where even close. Still Ran though. Ended taking it back off 3 weeks later to put it on another car and put the stock intake back on, got timing to go back to 8. Figured the carb might have been funny?
